Experience the summer’s equivalent of the northern lights on this midnight sun hike near Kirkenes. At 69.7° N, Kirkenes sits well inside the Arctic Circle, and for roughly 11 weeks each summer the sun doesn’t set at all. This hike is one of the best ways to actually feel that, out in open, untouched Arctic nature.
We pick you up in Kirkenes and drive 15 minutes to the trailhead. From there, we hike up through open Arctic tundra to a ridge with panoramic views over Kirkenes and the coastline of Bøkfjord. The sun stays up the whole time. That sounds simple, but it takes a moment to sink in when you’re standing on a ridge at night in full daylight, a golden glow stretching across the fjord. Your body says it should be dark — and it simply isn’t. Along the way, we take a break for a hot drink and a snack before heading back.
