What to expect?

Want to actually move through the Arctic landscape, not just see it from a car window? Then discover the Arctic nature around Kirkenes the way locals do — on skis. This tour takes you into quiet forests and across frozen lakes near Kirkenes, on skis. No previous experience needed.

We use fjellski — wide, stable Nordic skis built for open, natural terrain. They’re different from skis at a resort or on a groomed track. No steep slopes, no lift lines. Just snow and forest. The tour works for everyone. If you’ve never skied before, we fit you with skis, boots, and poles, then teach you the basics on flat ground: standing, gliding, using your poles, stopping and turning. If you already ski, we adjust the pace and terrain and get moving faster.

Once everyone’s comfortable, we continue on a scenic route through quiet Arctic wilderness, often in the nearby Pasvik Valley. We take breaks along the way, sharing technique tips and time to take in the surroundings — and we make a campfire in the snow to enjoy hot drinks together. Along the way, we tell you about local life, the nature around us, and the history of this borderland.

It’s a fun way to experience the Arctic nature around Kirkenes. If you’d like to go further, we also offer multi-day ski tours — either going out with a pulk and camping in a tent or overnighting at our Namdalen Wilderness Lodge in the Pasvik Valley.
