Authentic cabins with stories to tell

The blend of comfort and authenticity is what makes Namdalen special. On one hand, it’s an exclusive retreat: you have the entire wilderness to yourself, a private sauna, and a wide range of activities at your doorstep. On the other hand, it remains a true Norwegian cabin experience: rustic, simple, and deeply connected to the nature around you. The lodge is made up of several traditional buildings with their own character:

  • The old farmhouse with kitchen, living room, and cozy bedrooms upstairs.
  • The rustic barn, converted into simple but warm bedrooms.
  • A turf hut, built into the earth for a unique and intimate sleeping experience.
  • The old chicken house, now a dining hall for shared meals and gatherings.
  • A wood-fired sauna, both for relaxation and as your shower — since the water comes from a well, there is no running water here.

Do as much or as little as you like

This place is your Arctic playground — fully taken care of. Winter days can be filled with activities, tailored to the your wishes and abilities:

Easy activities

Easy activities like ice fishing, snow sculpturing, short snowshoe walks or relaxing in the sauna are accessible to all ages and fitness levels.

Moderate activities

Moderate activities such as longer snowshoe hikes, cross-country skiing, fatbiking, snowmobiling, or dog sledding require average fitness and comfort with spending a few hours outdoors in cold conditions.

For the adventurous

For the adventurous, there is also the option to sleep outside in expedition tents, experiencing Arctic camping under the Northern Lights. This option requires the willingness to embrace the elements.

Your private Aurora show — no light pollution, no crowds

Evenings are slow and magical. You gather by the fire, grill reindeer sausages, and watch the sauna heat up. Later, step outside into the stillness of the Arctic night for your own “Aurora cinema” — making popcorn over the fire while the Northern Lights shimmer above you. With no light pollution, Namdalen is the ideal place to watch the Aurora in total silence.

But the experience doesn’t stop there. When conditions are right, you can head out on an evening snowshoe hike or join a guided fatbike ride through the surrounding forest — chasing the Northern Lights in motion. Prefer something slower? Lie back on an air mattress in the woods and gaze up at a sky full of stars. Thanks to Namdalen’s location, it’s not only a Northern Lights paradise but also perfect for stargazing, deep-sky observation, and night photography.
