Your evening begins with pick-up in Kirkenes and a scenic 20 minute drive towards the Pasvik valley. Once there, your guide will take you to the sauna at the Namdalen Wilderness Lodge — either on snowshoes or by snowmobile & sled, depending on your preference. While the wood-heated sauna warms up to 80°C, we’ll gather around the fire, grill reindeer sausages, and share stories about the Aurora Borealis, its science, and myths from the Arctic. When the sauna is ready, you’ll step inside the cozy wooden hut and enjoy its soothing heat. Between sauna rounds, you can cool down in the snow, or even try an optional ice bath in the frozen lake. Throughout the evening, you’ll be in one of the best places in the region to see the Northern Lights — far from any light pollution. Your guide will be there with hot drinks and help capturing photos if the Aurora appears. This is Arctic wellness at its purest: heat, cold, food, and wilderness under the northern sky.
Optional snowshoe option:
For those who want to add an extra Arctic adventure, it’s possible to reach the sauna on snowshoes instead of traveling by snowmobile & sled. The hike takes about 60 minutes each way through snowy, uneven terrain, and requires a moderate fitness level. Guests should be in good health and comfortable spending time outdoors in cold winter conditions. You can also combine the two: hike in on snowshoes and return comfortably by sled behind the snowmobile. This option is available for an additional 1000 NOK per person.
