On this snowshoe hike, you’ll uncover the fascinating history of the Norwegian–Russian border: Observe the old guard tower along the border, gaze across the icy Pasvik river at the majestic Boris Gleb church — a sacred site so significant that it helped shape the border’s very path. You’ll spot the modern border crossing at Storskog, hear stories about Cold War tensions and today’s restrictions, and finally reach the iconic border markers — standing just two meters from Russian soil. This is not just a beautiful hike. It’s a journey into the past and present of Europe’s northernmost frontier.
Depending on snow conditions, the tour may be done as a snowshoe hike or a regular winter hike.
