Our story: From travellers to Arctic guides
Why we do what we do
Our goal is simple: to help you experience the Arctic the way we fell in love with it — at a slower pace, in small groups, with room to breathe and enjoy nature properly:
- We believe in authentic experiences, not mass tourism.
- We focus on small groups, where everyone feels safe, seen and included.
- We guide tours in German and English, so travellers from the DACH region feel at home.
- We value local life and real stories — the kind you don’t find in guidebooks.
- We love the Arctic for its quiet beauty, and we guide in a way that respects nature and local communities.
Meet your guides
Laura – Marketing Manager & Expedition Guide
Laura takes care of our guests long before they arrive in Kirkenes. She is the voice behind our messages, the person who helps travellers choose the right experience, and the one ensuring everyone feels welcome and well-prepared. On tour, she brings this same warmth, calm and fun presence — creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for guests from all over the world.
Before settling in the Arctic, Laura spent several years travelling full-time across Asia, Europe and South America. She hitchhiked 7,000 km from Vietnam to India, rode 35,000 km on a motorbike back to Europe, lived and worked from a self-converted camper van, and even learned to sail across the Atlantic and the Pacific. These journeys shaped her open, curious approach to guiding — and her ability to make guests feel comfortable in remote, unfamiliar places.
Her experience includes:
- Leading snowshoe and winter hiking tours around Kirkenes
- Guiding overnight ski trips and multi-day outdoor adventures
- Sharing historical and cultural insights with visitors from around the world
- Warm, calming presence that helps guests feel welcome and at ease
- Strong communication skills and clear, supportive trip preparation
- High adaptability from navigating remote regions across multiple continents
- Empathy and cultural sensitivity shaped by years of global travel
- Creative eye for storytelling and photography that enriches the guest experience
Dirk – Operations Manager & Expedition Guide
Since 2021, Dirk has been living in Northern Norway — where snow, silence and raw nature aren’t just part of daily life, but where he feels most at home. As a co-founder of kirkenes tours, he brings together deep-rooted outdoor experience and a strong medical background. A trained intensive care nurse for adults and children, as well as a paramedic, Dirk has over 15 years of experience in high-pressure clinical environments — where precision, resilience and responsibility are essential.
His heart, however, has always belonged to the outdoors. Dirk’s journey in the Arctic began as a dog musher at the famous Snowhotel Kirkenes and soon led to him becoming an all-around guide for Arctic experiences: snowshoe hikes, guided snowmobile expeditions, Northern Lights hunting, king crab trips, Hurtigruten and Havila port visits, and tailor-made adventures for guests from around the world. He comes alive when the snow crunches underfoot and the Arctic wind picks up.
Dirk's love for remote expeditions has grown over the years, and includes:
- Ski crossings of the Finnmarksvidda Plateau, Varanger Peninsula, Iceland, and Greenland
- Snowshoe traverse of Sweden’s Kungsleden trail
- A hiking crossing of the Alps
- Long-distance cycling trips across Central Europe
- Participation in marathons and half-marathons
- The next major challenge is already in sight: A planned expedition to the South Pole from Hercules Inlet, starting in November 2026. For him, it’s the natural next step – combining mental focus, physical endurance, and a love of simplicity in extreme conditions.
- Calm leadership in unpredictable Arctic conditions
- Strong focus on guest safety and wellbeing
- Encouraging and confidence-building guiding style
- Patience and attentiveness to different comfort levels
- Positive, steady energy that helps guests feel safe and inspired
