Meet kirkenes tours

We’re three German guides who came to Kirkenes as travellers and stayed because this place felt like home. Today, we share this quiet, powerful corner of Northern Norway through small-group tours shaped by our curiosity, our experience, and the landscapes we now live in every day.

Our story: From travellers to Arctic guides

We didn’t grow up in the Arctic — we discovered it. After travelling across Norway from south to north, we arrived in Kirkenes almost by chance. But what we found here stayed with us: wide, untouched landscapes, deep winter silence, and a sense of calm that felt both wild and comforting. What began as a few weeks slowly turned into months. We explored forest trails, frozen lakes, borderlands and mountain plateaus — always with growing curiosity and a deeper appreciation for this remote region. With time, Kirkenes became more than a place we visited. It became home. And that’s where kirkenes tours started: with the desire to share the magic of Arctic life with guests in a personal, honest and meaningful way.

Why we do what we do

Our goal is simple: to help you experience the Arctic the way we fell in love with it — at a slower pace, in small groups, with room to breathe and enjoy nature properly:

Meet your guides

We guide you the way we like to travel ourselves – with curiosity, care and time to enjoy the moment. Here are the three people you’ll meet most often on our tours.

Laura – Marketing Manager & Expedition Guide

Laura takes care of our guests long before they arrive in Kirkenes. She is the voice behind our messages, the person who helps travellers choose the right experience, and the one ensuring everyone feels welcome and well-prepared. On tour, she brings this same warmth, calm and fun presence — creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for guests from all over the world.

Before settling in the Arctic, Laura spent several years travelling full-time across Asia, Europe and South America. She hitchhiked 7,000 km from Vietnam to India, rode 35,000 km on a motorbike back to Europe, lived and worked from a self-converted camper van, and even learned to sail across the Atlantic and the Pacific. These journeys shaped her open, curious approach to guiding — and her ability to make guests feel comfortable in remote, unfamiliar places.

Dirk – Operations Manager & Expedition Guide

Since 2021, Dirk has been living in Northern Norway — where snow, silence and raw nature aren’t just part of daily life, but where he feels most at home. As a co-founder of kirkenes tours, he brings together deep-rooted outdoor experience and a strong medical background. A trained intensive care nurse for adults and children, as well as a paramedic, Dirk has over 15 years of experience in high-pressure clinical environments — where precision, resilience and responsibility are essential.

His heart, however, has always belonged to the outdoors. Dirk’s journey in the Arctic began as a dog musher at the famous Snowhotel Kirkenes and soon led to him becoming an all-around guide for Arctic experiences: snowshoe hikes, guided snowmobile expeditions, Northern Lights hunting, king crab trips, Hurtigruten and Havila port visits, and tailor-made adventures for guests from around the world. He comes alive when the snow crunches underfoot and the Arctic wind picks up.

Henrik – General Manager & Expedition Guide

Since 2021, Henrik has been living part of the year in Northern Norway — where long winters, midnight sun and raw wilderness set the rhythm of life. As a co-founder and general manager of kirkenes tours, he combines a background in sport and business management with a passion for hands-on guiding and Arctic adventure. Henrik holds a double degree in International Business from the Netherlands and the UK, and later completed a Master’s in Sport Management at the German Sport University in Cologne. Before settling in Kirkenes, Henrik spent several years travelling full-time. Together with Laura, he hitchhiked 7,000 km across Asia, rode 35,000 km on a motorbike back to Europe, and later learned to sail, crossing both the Atlantic and the Pacific after a long road trip through Patagonia. These journeys shaped his adaptability, optimism and love for endurance-focused expeditions.
