Namdalen Ski Experience

Backcountry ski through the Pasvik Valley

Your tour begins with pick-up in Kirkenes followed by a scenic drive of about 25 minutes to the Pasvik Valley. The Pasvik Valley is truly unique. Stretching from Finland through Norway and into Russia, it forms the northwestern edge of the Siberian taiga, the largest forest ecosystem in the world. From the starting point, we begin our backcountry ski tour through forest terrain. Depending on the group’s skiing experience and snow conditions, we may ski via the Kristofjellet viewpoint, which offers open views across the surrounding Pasvik landscape. The pace is relaxed and suitable for beginners, with time to enjoy the scenery and learn more about the area along the way.

Our destination is Namdalen Wilderness Lodge, a secluded farm surrounded by forest and wilderness. Places like this are an important part of Norwegian outdoor culture, where people spend time in nature, cook over open fires, and enjoy simple cabin life. At the lodge we gather around the campfire to grill reindeer hot dogs and enjoy hot drinks. During this break, we share insights about life in the area, wildlife, and everyday life in Northern Norway. Guests have time to explore the surroundings, relax by the fire, or simply enjoy the quiet atmosphere of this remote location.

Namdalen lies far away from artificial light sources. The Pasvik region is part of Norway’s first officially certified Dark Sky Park, making it one of the best areas in the country to observe the night sky. On clear evenings there is a good chance to see the Northern Lights while spending time at the lodge or during the ski tour back through the forest.

For guests who want to extend the experience, the tour can also be combined with a traditional Arctic Sauna Experience at the lodge.
