Overnight Ski Expedition

Introduction to Polar Expeditions

This experience is designed as a safe and approachable introduction to polar expeditions — perfect for guests who are curious about winter camping, backcountry skiing, and life beyond cabins and comfort zones.

We begin with a thorough introduction near Kirkenes, where your guide checks clothing and equipment and explains the basics of Arctic travel. You’ll learn how to use Nordic backcountry skis, pull a pulk with your personal and group gear, and move efficiently through snow-covered terrain. The skiing pace is slow and steady, focusing on comfort and learning rather than distance or performance.

As we ski into the quiet winter landscape, your guide will teach practical expedition skills: how to regulate body temperature, manage layers, take effective breaks, and navigate gentle terrain in winter conditions.

In the afternoon, we reach our campsite. Together, we set up winter expedition tents, secure them against wind, collect snow for melting water, and prepare a warm meal. You’ll learn how polar travelers stay warm, organized, and comfortable in cold environments — even when temperatures drop well below freezing.

As darkness falls, the Arctic becomes completely silent. With no light pollution, this is a perfect place to watch the stars — and, if conditions allow, the Northern Lights. Inside the tent, insulated sleeping mats and expedition sleeping bags provide surprising comfort.

The next morning starts calmly with hot drinks and breakfast before we pack up camp and ski back through the landscape. We return to Kirkenes with new skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of Arctic winter travel.

This is not an extreme expedition — it’s a learning experience, guided step by step, designed to build confidence and curiosity for future adventures.
