Arctic Sauna Experience

Get a taste of Norwegian cabin life

Your evening starts with pickup in Kirkenes and a scenic 20-minute drive toward the Pasvik Valley. From the starting point, you’ll travel by snowmobile sled train across a frozen lake (approx. 5–10 minutes) to reach Namdalen Wilderness Lodge, a secluded farm surrounded by the quiet forests of Pasvik.

While the sauna heats up, we gather around the campfire to grill reindeer sausages and enjoy hot drinks. We’ll share insights into the local area, wildlife, and everyday life in Northern Norway, offering a genuine glimpse into Arctic living. The sauna itself is rustic and authentic, heated with wood and designed the traditional Norwegian way. Between sauna rounds, you can cool down outside (do you dare to make a snow angel in the fresh snow?). Showering takes place inside the sauna at the end of the session, as is common in Norwegian sauna culture.

Throughout the evening, you’ll be in one of the best locations in the region for Northern Lights viewing. The Pasvik area is part of Norway’s first and only officially certified Dark Sky Park, offering exceptional conditions far from any light pollution.

Tour highlights

  • Transport to sauna at Namdalen Wilderness Lodge by snowmobile & sled or on snowshoes
  • Traditional wood-heated sauna (max. 7 guests)
  • Reindeer hot dogs by the fire
  • A taste of Norwegian cabin life: Stunning location with no light pollution

Good to know

  • Price: NOK 3500 per person, minimum 2 people. Every additional guest: NOK 1500 (if you are more than 5 people, please inquire)
  • Sauna fits up to 7 people
  • Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings can never be guaranteed.
  • Family-friendly, children must be accompanied by adults

Optional snowshoe option:

For those who want to add an extra Arctic adventure, it’s possible to reach the sauna on snowshoes instead of traveling by snowmobile & sled. The hike takes about 60 minutes each way through snowy, uneven terrain, and requires a moderate fitness level. Guests should be in good health and comfortable spending time outdoors in cold winter conditions. You can also combine the two: hike in on snowshoes and return comfortably by sled behind the snowmobile. This option is available for an additional 1000 NOK per person.
