For generations, Norwegians have explored winter landscapes on fjellski — traditional Nordic backcountry skis made for natural terrain rather than prepared tracks or steep mountains. Wider and more stable than classic cross-country skis, they are ideal for beginners and for moving comfortably through forests, frozen lakes, and rolling hills.
On this 3-hour Arctic Backcountry Ski Experience, your guide will first help you get properly fitted with skis, boots, and poles. We start on easy, flat terrain, where you’ll learn the fundamentals: standing comfortably on skis, gliding efficiently, using poles for balance, and stopping or turning in a controlled way. No previous skiing experience is needed.
Once everyone feels confident, we continue on a short, scenic route through quiet winter landscapes near Kirkenes. The pace is slow and relaxed, with plenty of breaks, technique tips, and time to enjoy the silence of the Arctic. Along the way, your guide shares insights into local winter life, Arctic nature, and the history of the region.
This is not a performance-focused trip. It’s about discovering the joy of moving calmly through untouched winter nature — the perfect introduction before longer fjell ski tours or overnight expeditions.
